The SRDC is a non-profit corporation, established in partnership with Westminster Presbyterian Church, DC, and conducting most of its activities at that location at 400 I Street, SW. Its purpose is to evoke broad-based community development in the Southwest community; building partnerships and engaging in mission and outreach for and with our neighborhood, in order to carry out the mission of the Church of Jesus Christ, which we understand to be "to increase the love of God and neighbor." SRDC believes that two channels for proclaiming and expressing our love for our neighborhood are: We believe that by providing settings and resources that contribute to our neighbors’ ability to meet these basic human needs, we will develop relationships with them that allow us to proclaim God’s love for them and to them. Through the commitment of resources and skills of our members and staff, Westminster has organized and established this non-profit organization. We started the small business, the SW Catering Company, and plan to open the the 4 1/2 Street Cafe. In both businesses, the vision is to integrate unemployed and under-employed people, primarily from our neighborhood, into meaningful work, where they can learn skills and understand their worth as creatures of God. SRDC also originated and oversees the two very popular music programs listed in the menu above, Blue Monday Blues and Jazz Night. |
